What is your personal connection to the Elizabeth River Trail?

Growing up in the local area, I have always enjoyed spending time along the Elizabeth River Trail and frequenting adjacent businesses, entertainment, and recreational spaces. Whether sailing on the Elizabeth River or working in downtown Norfolk, I have come to appreciate the trail as both an urban escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life and a convenient pathway connecting destinations throughout the city. It offers a unique balance of recreation, transportation, and community that has made it an important part of my experience living in the area.

Why did you/your organization decide to provide in-kind support to the trail?

Our company’s story began in Norfolk and we remain committed to the city and region as our company experiences growth. The local region was part of our foundation, and as our larger organization (XKIG) has grown nationwide it’s important to remember where we began our corporate story.

Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what benefits do you feel the trail has for the business community?

The ERT provides a quick, convenient route to get between meetings. Rather than driving and looking for parking, it is very easy to hop on a bike or walk to meet colleagues or friends.

What’s your favorite trail moment?

It happens every day, there’s something special as the sun sets over the river, and each day provides a unique mosaic of light, sound, and activity. From the spectacular light show as the sun slowly dips below the horizon, to the birds chirping, the humming sound of tugboats passing by, to the ding of the light rail train, there is a symphony of life that changes daily. The landscape lives and breathes and provides a relaxing scene to end each day.

It’s my favorite part of the day.

Favorite Trailgrazing spot? (i.e. best local food spot steps from the trail)

Cure Coffeehouse has been a favorite since they first opened 15 years ago. Life changes, but Cure has been consistent and is one of my first recommendations to friends visiting the city.
