Financial stability is the backbone of any non-profit, and we are not alone in needing financial support for our operations and capital projects. Currently, we need help to support our ongoing operations and programs. In the future, we have dreams of expanding the trail and adding more amenities and programming including kayak launches, unique art-like playgrounds, interactive educational signage, solar lighting, fitness equipment and more.

Our small staff works tirelessly to manage the programs, maintenance and amenities along the trail. We need lots of help to keep the ERT clean, active and a source of local pride. Please consider becoming a volunteer with us. We have an active Trail Ambassador program that serves as our eyes and ears on the trail looking for maintenance issues as well as helping trail users find their way. We host many events from clean-up days to bike rides, to historical and botanical walks and they all need volunteers to plan and execute.

The Elizabeth River Trail stands at a transformational moment, and only YOU can help shape what comes next. As a newly designated National Recreation Trail, the ERT is poised to grow beyond its 10.5 miles to connect more neighborhoods, more people, and more opportunities across Hampton Roads and become the jewel of an 82-mile regional trail network.
Your support of the Path Forward campaign will power this next chapter. Together, we can connect more communities, inspire wellness and creativity, and ensure everyone can experience the beauty and energy of the trail.

Several of our events are simply social gatherings of like-minded members of the community who are gathering to bike, run or enjoy the outside. However, some of our events are fundraisers that directly support the trail. If you’re interested in hosting one, please email us. We invite you to join us as often as you can. Please visit our calendar to see all that is happening.

Amazon Wishlist – As a small nonprofit, gifts of cleaning supplies, small furniture, printer ink, and more are a great way to support the work of the Elizabeth River Trail Foundation. View the ERT Amazon Wishlist to see what items are needed.
These gifts allow more donor and grant funds to be directed at programming and events, versus supplies, as the Foundation works to increase access to the trail, improve the trail user experience through trail amenities, and create a safe and welcoming trail with something for everyone.
