Is the ERT free?

The ERT is free and open for everyone! Walkers, runners, cyclists, skateboarders, pets, etc.

What should I bring on the trail?

Preparation makes for a great day on the trail. Bring water, sunscreen, snacks, phone, money, and a way to carry everything.

Are pets allowed on the trail?

Yes. Please remember to keep dogs on a leash not to exceed 6 feet and always clean up after your pets.

Are there public restrooms along the trail?

Many trail-adjacent businesses offer restrooms to trail users. They are less frequent in the northernmost residential section of the trail, so plan accordingly.

Who do I contact in case of emergencies?

For emergencies, dial 911. To report illegal activities, contact Norfolk police at (757) 441-5610.

Who do I contact in case of a maintenance issue?

To report maintenance or non-emergency safety concerns, email hello@elizabethrivertrail.org.

Who are trail ambassadors?

Trail Ambassadors are volunteers with vests. They perform patrols that help keep the ERT safe, clean, and fun for everyone. For more information about our bi-annual ambassador trainings, email hello@elizabethrivertrail.org.

Where can I find planned itineraries?

With 10.5 miles of trail, there are many great routes to explore. Pro tip: Follow ERT on Strava to see fun rides and runs from other trail users and share your own!

Where can I rent bikes?

There’s never a shortage of Lime electric bikes available along the trail. Pedego Electric Bikes are close to the downtown section of trail and available to rent by the hour.
