Pedal and Plant Local

On our latest segment of the ERT Botanical Tour series, our Norfolk Master Gardeners led the way on a casual “Gardens of Lochhaven” group bike tour. As they pedaled (and drove, as part of an accessible tour option) through one of Norfolk’s most charming neighborhoods, participants received tips on plant identification, landscape design, and best practices for showcasing creativity to their own green spaces. The group learned firsthand how these nearly century-old homes can incorporate robust pollinator beds and riverfront shade garden designs. Along the way, the bike crew identified impressive tree species which included an abnormally large crape myrtle and a tall pin oak. 

Additionally, this tour included a brief tour of the Hermitage Museum & Gardens: a 12-acre waterfront estate that offers a perfect blend of art, nature, and history! The participants explored gardens transitioning from summer blooms to fall seeds, and they even marveled at a significant and peculiar Osage orange tree.
