Brittany Took a Joyride

Brittany Took a Joyride

Tidewater Transit Advocacy (TTA) hosted Joyride on the Tide to celebrate 15 Years of operation between Norfolk and Virginia Beach. TTA is a grassroots community organization made up of members from across the Tidewater area, dedicated to improving public transportation and shared-use infrastructure in Hampton Roads. The event was open to the public and was attended by local leaders like Delegate Jackie Glass and Councilman John E. Paige, leadership staff from Hampton Roads Transit and the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission, and me, a human being who depends heavily on public transit and alternative modes of transportation because I do not own a car.

And while the event was a great success and many connections were made, there was a collective agreement that more work needs to be done on multiple levels: outreach, legislation, and funding. The bright side is that though TTA is small, it is a mighty and driven group of souls that care deeply about their community, and I’m happy to be in a community with folks like that. At this point in time, the Tide is the only way to connect from the Elizabeth River Trail to Virginia Beach. Our mission is to extend the trail and add another mode of safe transportation between Norfolk and Virginia Beach and act as a model for inter-regional connectability.
