Describe what the company you work for does and what your position entails:
The company does quite a few things but the practice that I am a part of focuses on supporting local governments with their infrastructure needs. Personally, I specialize in stormwater management consulting. That support can range from flood studies to drainage and roadway improvements or water quality best management practices.
What is your personal connection to the Elizabeth River Trail?
I’ve been a member of the Master Planning Committee and a Board member for about 5 years. I live in Ghent just off the trail. I love to walk; the ERT does a great job of connecting multiple neighborhoods and provides education and attractions along the way.
Why did you/your company decide to provide sponsorship to the trail?
We were asked! There was a need to bring in a design firm with expertise in trails and local drainage issues to help bring project ideas to life. We participate on the Master Planning Committee and provide in-kind sponsorship through conceptual engineering. I also sit on the ERT Board. The City of Norfolk is a long-time client so sponsoring the ERT is a great way to give back.
Given your business expertise and the nature of what you do, what benefits do you feel the trail has for the business community?
Exposure!
What’s your favorite trail moment?
I’m pretty proud of the work that Timmons did on The Glowline at Jeff Robertson Park! To see that come to fruition and to see the community excited about it was awesome!
Favorite Trailgrazing spot? (i.e. best local food spot steps from the trail)
It’s hard to pick just one! Chelsea has many great spots to choose from but my favorite has to be Benchtop Brewing Company. As a former Barley’s Angel, I have had the opportunity to volunteer for them over the years. Not only are their beers unique and tasty but the owners and staff are amazing.
Best view of the Elizabeth River from the trail?
Along the Brambleton Ave bridge where you have the option of looking over to Hospital Point Park in Portsmouth or towards the Hague and Ghent.
