Unity in the Community: A Back 2 School Celebration

For the second year, ERT was invited to participate in this super duper fun back-to-school giveaway party hosted by Norfolk Public Schools and the City of Norfolk. This year was extra special because our diversity, equity, and inclusion committee, ERT For All, took the lead on this wonderful engagement opportunity.

The event opened up with a performance by the Shark City Drumline and an inspiring speech about the importance of education and supporting young people and their passions was given by Mayor Alexander. Hot 91 played the jams that got the people line dancing. There was free lunch, health screenings done by Sentara, vaccinations, and even brand new sneakers for those in need.

It was such a beautiful experience to be able to give out much needed supplies like hand sanitizer, pocket tissues, pencils, sharpeners, crayons, folders, and the all time favorite item: Positive Affirmation Erasers! And of course, everyone loves ERT bike bells. Putting smiles on kids’ faces simply can’t be beat. We can’t wait for next year’s event, but until then, all of Norfolk’s kiddos get an A+ from ERT.
