Prince of Fire Has Found His Home

The ERT Foundation was joined by the Lambert’s Point community, sculpture donor Michael Ricks, and Chrysler Museum of Art’s McKinnon Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, Chelsea Pierce for a ribbon cutting and celebration of a new piece of public art on the ERT. A twelve foot stainless steel sculpture by world renowned artist Lila Katzen (12/30/25-9/20/98), Prince of Fire now stands in its new home in Lambert’s Point near the microfarm and green space. A gift to the trail from Richard D. Ricks and the Ricks’ family of Norfolk business Furniture Classics, this sculpture once stood in front of the Time-Life building in Chicago, before being owned by the Ricks’ family and standing in front of their business on Phillpotts Ln. 

Through a collaborative process with the Lambert’s Point Civic League and residents, and with guidance from the Norfolk Arts Commission and Parks and Recreation, the ERT Foundation was able to include Prince of Fire in their collection of public art and install it where all of the community can enjoy and engage with the sculpture. 

The event also celebrated the newly installed amenities at the green space including benches, bike racks, trash cans, and picnic tables, and we brought a little fire ourselves, serving up toasty s’mores to trail visitors!
